Recently, Dave Shea<\/a> has\r\n done yet another\r\n redesign<\/a>. When it launched, he seemed to take a rather defensive stance\r\n on his decision to do so, and I didn\u2019t understand why. He should not feel he\r\n needs to defend his decisions \u2014 it\u2019s his site, and his right to do as he pleases.\r\n I now understand from his latest\r\n post<\/a>, it looks like he received a lot<\/em> of criticism for his previous\r\n design, Proton<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I think everyone can agree that there\u2019s nothing wrong with a little criticism\r\n when called for. However, there is a line that can be crossed when it comes\r\n to being unnecessarily harsh. Some of the comments were quite positive towards\r\n the new design, but I\u2019m not concerned about those. I\u2019m particularly concerned\r\n about the ones that insult Dave\u2019s integrity. The three, in particular, that\r\n I found most offensive are:<\/p>\r\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad he changed it\u2026 I was starting to visit less often because\r\n some of my confidence was shaken\u2026 but it\u2019s been restored now :)\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n

\u201cI love v5; I can now justify coming back to mezzoblue.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n

And finally, the most offensive\u2026<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThe new Proton layout isn\u2019t finished yet is it? It\u2019s ugly as hell!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n

The other\u2019s tended to be more positive than these, though, as Dave pointed\r\n out, the trend is the same.<\/p>\r\n

I\u2019d just like to point out that content is, and always will be far more important\r\n than presentation; and Dave\u2019s writing is certainly exceptional. Just because\r\n you dislike his site redesign, is no reason to question returning to his site.\r\n If presentation is the only reason you can think of to justify returning; then,\r\n sadly, you\u2019re really missing out on something good.<\/p>\r\n

Everyone\u2019s entitled to their own opinion, and not everyone is always going\r\n to agree. Some people hated Proton, and others (like myself) loved it. Some\r\n people will hate the new design, and others will love it also. Hopefully more\r\n of the latter than the former, but it\u2019s really irrelevant \u2014 it\u2019s not a beauty\r\n contest<\/em>, it\u2019s a blog!<\/strong> It doesn\u2019t have to be the most\r\n attractive site. A little criticism can be expected; and, in most cases, is\r\n certainly welcome \u2014 it can provide valuable feedback that can be used to improve\r\n the next time round. However, unconstructive and offensive comments like those\r\n quoted above are certainly not welcome.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

I applaud Dave for exercising his right to be an individual, to be creative;\r\n and to be daring with his designs \u2014 he certainly is a talented artist. One whom\r\n we should all look up to for inspiration, motivation, and of course thank him\r\n for his devotion to his fans (I got a reply to a comment I sent him this\r\n morning within 5 minutes!<\/strong> of posting \u2014 how cool is that! I certainly\r\n didn\u2019t have time to paint a still life<\/q> while waiting, as he suggested\r\n on his thank you page!)<\/em>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Recently, Dave Shea has done yet another redesign.
