Following the airing of the\r\n\t\t200th episode<\/a> of the series Stargate SG-1, the\r\n\tannouncement was released stating that the\r\n\tshow will be cancelled<\/a> at the\r\n\t\tend of season 10. I, for one, am absolutely distraught by this shocking\r\n\t\tnews, as will many of my friends who are also fans of the show. However,\r\n\t\tthe spin-off series Stargate Atlantis<\/a> is safe for another year, having\r\n\t\tbeen contracted for a fourth season.<\/p>\r\n

The campaign Save Stargate SG-1<\/a> is\r\n\tasking fans from all around the world to show their support for the long\r\n\trunning series in the hope that the Sci Fi channel in the US will change\r\n\ttheir mind or that the show may be picked up and produced by another network. \r\n\tOne of the ways to show support is write\r\n\ta letter<\/a> to MGM, the Sci Fi network and\/or your\r\n\town country\u2019s TV network that broadcasts the show<\/a>. I have written one letter\r\n\tto be sent to MGM and Sci Fi, and another to the 7 Network in Australia.<\/p>\r\n

The following open letter is the one I will be sending off to MGM\/Sci Fi.<\/p>\r\n

After hearing the devastating news of Stargate SG-1’s cancellation, I wanted\r\n\tto express my disappointment in regards to this decision. I love Stargate,\r\n\tboth SG-1 and Atlantis, and, in my opinion, it is greatest television series\r\n\tof all time. To lose Stargate SG-1\u2014the show which captured my imagination,\r\n\tand that of many of my friends, at a very early age\u2014would truly be a very sad\r\n\tend to an era.<\/p>\r\n

I have watched every episode to date, without fail, and eagerly await the\r\n\tnew episodes each week. Over the years, I have also purchased every episode\r\n\treleased on DVD (currently up to season 9) and will continue to do so. In fact,\r\n\tif the episodes were available for download in Australia from iTunes, I would\r\n\tquite happily purchase them instead of waiting several months for the episodes\r\nto be aired on the 7 Network.<\/p>\r\n

Your decision to discontinue this phenomenal series will greatly affect millions\r\n\tof fans all around the world and I dearly hope that season 10 will not be\r\n\tthe last we will see of SG-1! Thank you for bringing such a wonderful series to\r\n\tus for the past 10 years.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n

I only wish they were aired at a more reasonable\r\ntime, instead of Thursday\u2019s at 23:00.<\/p>\r\n

It has been reported that Sci Fi\u2019s contract with MGM legally prohibits them\r\n\tfrom producing new episodes so I writing to you to respectfully request the\r\n\t7 Network to approach Charles Cohen, Executive VP at MGM, to work on an international\r\n\tco-production deal that would bring in partner networks from other countries,\r\nin order to keep the show alive.<\/p>\r\n

Thank you for supporting Stargate for the past 9 years and I dearly hope you\r\nwill continue to do so for many more years to come.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n

If you\u2019re a diehard Stargate fan, like myself, please get involved in the\r\n\tcampaign and do your part to save the show. Feel free to use my letters\r\n\tas a basis for your own or one of the\r\n\ttemplates made available by the campaign<\/a>,\r\n\tthough you should try to personalise it a little for yourself.<\/p>\r\n

However, it\r\n\t\thas been stated<\/a> that even though the series is ending, it probably\r\n\twon\u2019t be the end of the SG-1 franchise. This has given rise to speculation\r\n\tabout what may follow in the future. Could we finally see the rumoured feature\r\n\tfilm: Stargate II<\/a>; perhaps\r\n\ta mini-series or even a thrid spin-off series, following in the steps of\r\n\tStargate Atlantis<\/a> and the cartoon\r\n\tseries Stargate\r\n\tInfinity<\/a>?
