{"id":115,"date":"2006-07-24T15:22:54","date_gmt":"2006-07-24T15:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lachy.id.au\/log\/2006\/07\/ski-holiday"},"modified":"2006-09-09T02:11:45","modified_gmt":"2006-09-09T02:11:45","slug":"ski-holiday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lachy.id.au\/log\/2006\/07\/ski-holiday","title":{"rendered":"Ski Holiday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, from July 8 to 16, I was spending a week skiing at <a href=\"http:\/\/fallscreek.com.au\/\">Falls\r\n\tCreek<\/a> in Victoria, along with Noveta (mum), Andrew (dad), Lisa (older sister)\r\n\tand Leah (Lisa\u2019s friend).<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Family-20060713.jpg\" title=\"View Larger Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Family-20060713-small.jpg\" alt=\"Leah, Lisa, Noveta and Andrew posed for a photo in their ski suits.\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>The first few days had shocking weather: it was so foggy, it was hard to\r\n\tsee where we were going as we were recklessly flying down the hill with little\r\n\tregard for our own safety.  But, by the middle of the week, it cleared up and\r\n\tleft a reasonably good covering of snow.<\/p>\r\n<p>Except for Andrew, who prefers to stay on the easy green runs, we spent most\r\n\tof our time doing the blue and black runs over near the Scotts and Ruined Castle\r\n\tchair lifts.  There was a terrain park over there with various jumps, boxes\r\n\tand rails to challenge (and injure) ourselves on.  The most challenging of these\r\n\twas a yellow school bus buried in the snow.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Bus-20060712.jpg\" alt=\"The yellow bus is buried in the snow with a steep ramp leading up behind it for jumping and a downhill ramp at the front for landing.  The roof of the bus is covered in a special hard plastic material designed for sliding along on skis or a snow board.\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Out of 6 attempts, I successfully completed 3 and stacked the others.  Luckily,\r\n\twe made it through with little more than a few minor bruises. Surprisingly,\r\n\teven dad didn\u2019t sustain any injuries as he has in previous years.<\/p>\r\n<p>We stayed in a lodge called Karelia where we spent the evenings in the outdoor\r\n\tspa and sauna, and in the lounge room socialising with the many other families\r\n\tstaying there as well.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Karelia-Lodge-20060711.jpg\" title=\"View Larger Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Karelia-Lodge-20060711-small.jpg\" alt=\"The front of the dark brown, wooden, snow covered lodge has 2 flights of stairs leading up to the second floor, where the entrance to the main accommodation area is.  The third floor has a long balcony stretching almost the entire width of the bulding, with smaller balcony above on the fourth floor.  The signs out front read \u201cKarelia Alpine Lodge Accommodation\u201d, and another reading \u201cJ.B.\u2019s Restaurant\u201d, which is a restaurant and bar located on the ground floor.\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>I liked to play scrabble and various other games with one group of boys (pictured\r\n\tbelow), from 2 families that had come down together from Brisbane; whom I went\r\n\tout skiing with later in the week.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Boys-Family-20060713.jpg\" title=\"View Larger Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Boys-Family-20060713-small.jpg\" alt=\"The boys are seated on a couch in the lodge with their parents standing behind, with myself and one of the boys seated on the floor in front.\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>From the top left, this is Paul, Kelly, Paul (yes, another one) Kathy, William,\r\n\tJay, Harry, Mitchell, myself and Sam. There&#8217;s also <a href=\"\/lib\/images\/2006\/Falls-Creek-Boys-20060713.jpg\">another\r\n\tphoto of the boys and I without their parents<\/a>. <\/p>\r\n<p>We managed to take some photos and a few short videos of our skiing adventure,\r\n\twhich I have compiled into a short video (MPEG-4: <a href=\"\/lib\/media\/2006\/Falls-Creek-2006-(high).mp4\">high\r\n\tquality (14.1MB)<\/a> or <a href=\"\/lib\/media\/2006\/Falls-Creek-2006-(medium).mp4\">low\r\n\tquality ( 5.5MB)<\/a>).
