This site went down and the WHOIS registry for my domain name said\r\n\t<samp>Status: PENDINGDELETE<\/samp>.  That means the domain name\u2019s lease had technically expired. \r\n\tHowever, this was not supposed to happen, it\u2019s not due for renewal until February\r\n\t2007.<\/p>\r\n<p>After several phone calls and e-mails to my domain registrar, I finally managed\r\n\tto get the domain re-activated, and I can only hope this never happens again. \r\n\tHowever, the site being down was not the only problem.  This domain is also\r\n\tused for my primary e-mail account and I was without regular e-mail since Friday. \r\n\tSo if you had tried to contact me then you may have received a failure notice;\r\n\tin which case, just e-mail me again now that it\u2019s all back to normal.<\/p>\r\n<p>As some of you may have also noticed, this blog is currently undergoing a\r\n\tredesign to match the template used on the rest of the site. It\u2019s been a long\r\n\ttime coming and I finally got so sick of the awful default WordPress template;\r\n\tI just had to do something about it.  It\u2019s taking a little while to finish for\r\n\tseveral reasons, primarily because I\u2019m so extremely busy at the moment. I\u2019ve\r\n\tgot so many companies wanting my fabulous services to build and\/or fix web sites\r\n\tfor them and so little time to do it.<\/p>\r\n<p>For those of you that don\u2019t know, I\u2019m actually back at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hothouse.com.au\/\">HotHouse<\/a> as a contractor\r\n\t(<a href=\"\/log\/2005\/10\/contract-work\">after leaving my full time position last\r\n\tOctober<\/a>) and have been building 4\r\n\tsites for them since January.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edentiti.com\/\">Edentiti<\/a> is also requesting me to do some more\r\n\twork for them and I\u2019ll be doing a couple of days per week in between all the\r\n\tHotHouse work.  Beyond that, there are a few other smaller projects for me to\r\n\ttake a look at and give quotes for.<br \/>\r\n\t<br \/>\r\n\tIn other news, I\u2019m switching my internet connection from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigpond.com\/internet-plans\/broadband\/cable\/\">Telstra\r\n\tBigpond Cable<\/a> (up to around 6Mbps\/128kbps (download\/upload), shaped to 64kbps after\r\n\t10GB per month) to <a href=\"http:\/\/iinet.net.au\/products\/broadband\/\">iiNet\u2019s\r\n\tADSL2+ with VoIP<\/a> phone (up to 24Mbps\/1Mbps (download\/upload)\r\n\tshaped after approx. 20GB\/20GB per month (peak\/offpeak time)).  The shaping\r\n\tsucks, but there\u2019s not much choice in Australia, without paying excessive download\r\n\tcharges.  During the transfer process, I\u2019ll be without internet connection for\r\n\ta few days.  My cable will be cut this Friday morning and the ADSL2+ will be\r\nconnected some time next week.<\/p>\r\n<p>Finally, another of my hard drives died yesterday.  It\u2019s a Western Digital\r\n\t200GB IDE drive.  Actually, this is the 2nd replacement disk, after the original\r\n\tarrived dead and had to be replaced immediately back in June 2005.  The first\r\n\treplacement disk had a serious disk error after a few months and Scan Disk ended\r\n\tup wiping the whole directory structure, thus losing all of the data.  This\r\n\tfinal one was received in January and now the same kind of disk error occurred. \r\n\tOnly this time, instead of letting scan disk wipe all the data, I cancelled\r\n\tit.  I was able to copy the few files from it that weren\u2019t already backed up,\r\n\tbut couldn\u2019t modify it at all.  The disk is now completely unusable, I can\u2019t\r\n\teven format it.
