Affirmation

I got a little creative today and ended up writing this. It is best sung to the tune of Savage Garden’s Affirmation, but I’m not talented enough to record it myself.

I believe the R-I-A-A should settle all arguments.
I believe we’ve placed our fair-use-rights in other people’s hands.
I believe that DRM’s no good because it’s bad for you.
I believe fighting for freedom is something we have to do.
I believe the music industry promotes low quality.
I believe that we must have the right to use the things we own.

I believe in Karma; what you give is what you get returned.
I believe in a fair world where our freedom does not get burned.
I believe the grass is much more greener on the other side.
I believe we can’t give up our fight until we save our pride.

I believe you can’t control our freedom in reality.
I believe that trust is more important than no piracy.
I believe supporting creativity should be our goal.
I believe that customers are worth more than money or gold.
I believe the struggle for digital freedom is unfair.
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires.

I believe in Karma; what you give is what you get returned.
I believe in a fair world where our freedom does not get burned.
I believe the grass is much more greener on the other side.
I believe we can’t give up our fight until we save our pride.

I believe 09-F9’s the key to our own happiness.
I believe that a fair price negates the need for DRMs.
I believe that we must stop DMCA extortionists.
I believe in copyright not lasting for eternity.

I believe in Karma; what you give is what you get returned.
I believe in a fair world where our freedom does not get burned.
I believe the grass is much more greener on the other side.
I believe we can’t give up our fight until we save our pride. (repeat ×2)

(It would be cool if someone was talented enough to record that.)

Update: This got dugg!

Web Jam 3

Web Jam 3 was awesome! I presented a short explanation and demonstration of the video element. For best results, you should use the experimental version of Opera with some support for <video>.

The demonstration video I used was hilarious! I lip synced and danced to the Spice Girls’ hit song Wannabe. You can download it and watch it (Ogg Theora, 14.8MiB). Feel free to remix, share, whatever (my normal copyright licence applies). (If you don’t have a media player that supports Ogg Theora, get VLC or follow the instructions on Wikipedia.)

There were prizes awarded on the night. First prize was Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium and second prize was a ticket to Web Directions South 2007, which were awarded based on SMS voting. There were also several copies of Cubicle Commando awarded randomly to people who had voted for the presentations by SMS.

Earl won the ticket to Web Directions, while I managed to score a copy of Cubicle Commando and also won the Adobe CS3 package! Instead of giving a boring acceptance speech, I ended up giving a live performance of the lip sync dance. Videos of that will be posted somewhere; I’ll let you know when I find out where.

Update: I put the video up on YouTube.

Sanctuary

The first episode of Sanctuary was released today, and I have to say the show is awesome! The first 4 webisodes will be posted to You Tube, with the first is already available. According to the official blog, the next will be released in 2 weeks.

I decided to purchase the high definition versions, at $AUD16.25 for the bundle of the first 4 episodes, which is quite cheap. Though, I’m still waiting to download it because they’re having a few technical issues with the site, which have been discussed in the forum.

I recommend you all go and watch it now!
